Gov. Diri parleys Bayelsa Assembly… solicits supports

to present 2020 Budget soon…
Bayelsa state Governor  Senator Douye Diri has solicited the support and cooperation of the State House of Assembly to build on the developmental foundation already laid by the immediate past administration of Governor Seriake Dickson.

The governor stated this when he received in audience the leadership and members of the State House of Assembly led by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Monday Bobou Edwin – Obolo in Government House, Yenagoa on Monday.
In a press statement by the Head of Press,  Government House,  Yenagoa,  Governor Diri stressed the need for the legislative arm to join hands with both the executive and judicial arms to take the state to enviable heights.
He added that no single arm of government can ensure development without the input of the other arms.

Senator Diri said he would soon present this year’s appropriation bill to the Assembly for passage into law and called for its speedy approval. He said the timely passage of the appropriation bill would ensure the smooth running of his administration and the completion of projects, in line with his campaign mantra of “Consolidation For Prosperity”

According to him,  “If this government is going to succeed, about 60-70% will depend on the legislative arm of government. Bills will be coming, our policies will be restrained and if the legislative arm of government does not cooperate, our bills will not be passed. And so I solicit your cooperation as we are willing to work hand in glove with you”

“Please join me let us build this state that all of us craved for in the old Rivers state, from where we were excised from. I pray to have a very fruitful relationship among all the arms of the government”

“We need this meeting particularly with you because, we will be knocking at your door very soon with the 2020 budget”

“I’m here to also assure you that I’m going to be your lamb, I will be your servant. God has ministered to me to be your servant. Myself and my Deputy Governor, we are here to serve you, we are not your masters, the masters are the people”

“Let us emphasize on the things that bring us together as brothers and sisters and de-emphasize on the things that divide us. The bitterness, the acrimony is too high. And I’m sure God did this and not me, it is God that has brought me to unite us”

The governor said his administration wants to hit the ground running  and urged the legislators to shun every form of bitterness and acrimony, but rather work for peace and stability.

Earlier, Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Edwin – Obolo congratulated Governor Diri on his swearing-in as the fifth governor of the state.

Rt. Hon. Edwin – Obolo assured that the Assembly would provide the needed support by working hand-in-hand with him to consolidate on the gains of the past administration in all critical sectors.

His words “We have come to visit you your Excellency, to let you know that Bayelsans elected 26 representatives of which you and your Deputy are from the executive arm of government, the rest 24 members are in the legislative arm”

“The Bayelsa state House of Assembly are men of proven integrity, carefully selected by their different constituencies to support your policies and programmes”
